IJM Ghana partners with Ghanaian government agencies to tackle human trafficking by rescuing victims, ensuring perpetrator accountability, restoring survivors to safety and strength, and supporting public justice actors to strengthen systems that protect the vulnerable.

The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a talented lead for law enforcement partnerships who will be responsible for developing relationships with and influencing institutional law enforcement leadership, officers and other key government officials to co-develop, adopt, and implement best practices for investigations and initiatives that will increase the effectiveness of human trafficking investigations throughout Ghana. This position is a full-time position with frequent travel to other regions in Ghana.

This position is based in Accra, Ghana and reports to Director, Operations

Responsibilities:

  • Network and build partnerships with key law enforcement and government officials, in line with the Organization’s strategic objectives;
  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of the modus operandi of human trafficking across IJM Ghana’s project areas;
  • Build a thorough working knowledge of relevant laws and criminal procedures regarding human trafficking and related case types;
  • Assist in enhancing the capacity of government and community organizations to observe, report, and investigate potential cases of human trafficking;
  • Establish and nurture cooperative relationships with Ghanaian professionals, organizations, and coalitions related to Law Enforcement Development;
  • Represent IJM’s Law Enforcement Development program in coalition and stakeholder meetings, conferences, and workshops;
  • Provide technical consultation and assistance to government authorities working on human trafficking and related cases;
  • Assist appropriate authorities in the documentation, gathering and preservation of evidence;
  • Support with the development of training curriculum and relevant materials to meet identified training needs;
  • Assist in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of strategies and best practices for effective collaboration with government partners;
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all information regarding potential cases, and other sensitive information;
  • Write and submit detailed and timely reports;
  • Input relevant field data, training data and meeting data into IJM’s data management system;
  • Complete finance training, create and process requisitions, expense reports and other finance related processes and submit in a timely manner;
  • Ensure compliance with all IJM and donor requirements; and
  • Participate in IJM's community of spiritual formation.

Requirements:

  • Graduate degree in criminal justice, development or equivalent combination of bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience;
  • Experience in relevant country contexts;
  • Minimum 5 years law enforcement service with a minimum of 2 years of direct criminal investigations experience;
  • Experience planning or facilitating capacity building workshops or training events;
  • Fluency in Twi, Ga-Dangme, Ewe, Dagbani, etc. is advantageous;
  • Excellent Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills;
  • Very good negotiation and communication skills;
  • Excellent planning and implementing skills; and
  • Networking and decision-making skills.

*What is a statement of faith?

A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how you see it as relevant to your involvement with IJM. The statement can either be incorporated into the cover letter or submitted as a separate document which should not more than a page, and should include, at a minimum, a description of your spiritual disciplines (prayer, study, etc.) and your current fellowship or place of worship.
